The Royal Institute of Painters in Water-Colours, originally known as the New Watercolour Society NW or New Society of Painters in Water Colours, was founded in 1831. It is an offshoot of the older Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours RWS, and the result of a secession of dissatisfied members. It has followed in a great measure the constitution and laws of the parent organization, has met with marked success, and numbers among its members many of the most prominent and promising artists of the kingdom.
